Through her research, Neerja will form a sustainable business model for education centers or other educational ventures in underserved areas by outlining possible pitfalls and good practices for a successful outcome. She will investigate social entrepreneur programs in Silicon Valley, including RDVP projects, in the area of technology usage as case studies to be used for a book to be published later.

Bio

Neerja Raman is an executive in research management. A visionary, she combines business skills with technical insight to deliver solutions of global impact. At Hewlett Packard Labs, as Director, she was responsible for algorithms and systems research for digital imaging and printing. Her professional experience spans startups, academia and industry. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and lectures on leadership skills.

Neerja was inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame, Women in Technology International (WITI). The judges wrote, “Neerja Raman’s visionary and results-driven approach has created one of the most highly respected and motivated teams in HP’s central research laboratory for the company’s innovative camera and inkjet products. Her team is geographically dispersed, global, and a model of diversity.” Prior to HP Labs, her team designed and developed software that enabled low cost chemical analyses. Under her leadership, HP pioneered drug testing at the Olympics. Neerja’s academic experience includes research at Stanford University and U.C. San Diego.

Neerja pioneered corporate recognition of diversity as a business value. Skills acquired to successfully navigate the pitfalls of being the only female in high pressure environments and lessons from her upbringing in India are articulated in a management book “The Practice and Philosophy of Decision Making: A Seven Step Spiritual Guide.” It was featured at the authors' expo "Books that Empower Women" by WITI.

Neerja is active in the community. She has been a United Way Chair at HP. She serves on the advisory board of Maitri, a women’s self empowerment organization, is a member of Indian Business and Professional Women and executive director of IWE. Federation of Indo-Americans has recognized Raman’s accomplishments as an author and technologist with an award of distinction.

Neerja is a graduate of the Executive Program at Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University and has a double Masters from S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook and Delhi University. Her passion is developing and articulating business models to enable technology solutions that are sustainable and lead to social empowerment of the underserved. She lives in California and is working on her next book while continuing her career as consultant, coach and speaker.
