Reuters, Ltd Vamos Blogar (Let's Blog) Computing and Communication Skills for Street Children in Rio de Janeiro Vamos Blogar (blogar.org) is a literacy curriculum based on multimedia weblogs for street children in Rio de Janeiro. In partnership with local NGO Projeto Uerê, we target lack of self-esteem and employability skills amongst this at-risk population which totals millions in Brazil. Building competencies around self-generated content motivates children and gives them jobs off the streets and out of illicit trades. Bio
Saori Fotenos is a Japanese-Brazilian technologist interested in its applications in education. She has run a computer school for disadvantaged inner-city girls, consulted and published on educational technology, and most recently at Reuters, managed projects for delivering real time financial data and for publishing multimedia news stories over the internet. Saori has a BS in Computer Science from Brown University. |
