Namkhana Center Launch
The first Anudip rural entrepreneur development center was inaugurated on May 8th, 2006, at the premises of our NGO partner, Asha Welfare Society, in beautifully rural Namkhana island in the south Sundarbans.

Over 250 women leaders of Asha’s self help groups (SHGs)attended the event together with Asha governing body and guests from the region.

Each entrepreneurial-minded SHG leader manages a self-help group of about 20 families, thus giving the Anudip Center a co-operative reach through Asha into 5,000 families of the Namkhana region.

As the date coincided with he 145th birthday of Poet Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the day’s events included performance of Tagore evergreen songs and poems by members of the audience.

The ceremonial signing of the operational agreement by Dipak Basu, President of Anudip, and Amal Maity, Secretary of Asha was followed by explanations of the Asha/Anudip venture by Mr Maity, Mr Dinesh Das, the chief guest, and Mr Basu.

Ms Alakananda Rao conducted a highly-popular demonstration of our computerized Bengali training material.

Finally, and most importantly, there followed an intensive Q&A session with the audience which led to many ideas and suggestions. The planned 90-minute session turned into a four-hour event.

Classes will begin in late May.

Two additional Anudip Centers will be opened in July at Tagore Society for Rural Development at Rangabelia, and at Aikatan in South Barasat.
