Speaker bio:
Currently, John Sherry is the director of the “Health Practices Research Lab” in Intel’s Digital Health Group. Members of this lab conduct ethnographic and social scientific research in a variety of institutional and personal settings. Prior to that, he managed People and Practices Research. In both places, the goal of research is to uncover patterns of daily life, unarticulated needs, and enduring values that lead to new insights about technology design and corporate strategy.
From 2002 through the first half of 2005, John was also part of a small team that looked at the role of information and communications technologies in economic development. Their work brought them to a variety of locations, including Latin America, Central Europe, India and east Asia. This team looked at how people were making use of technologies to address their own needs. They were interested both in the needs themselves, and in the ways people needed to adapt technology to fit the contingencies of their environments, which were often very different from those of the team in the U.S.
