This Initiative harnesses the power of ICTs to improve the reach, scope and effectiveness of these critical services in underserved markets. RDVP Fellows employ a needs-based approach to conceptualizing innovations in the following areas: Microfinance Microinsurance Remittances Market information E-commerce	Education and access to information play crucial roles in the knowledge economy. The vast majority of the planet, however, is cut off from these critical services. The objective of this Initiative is to leverage the strengths of ICT in connecting people – to vital information, to essential services, and to each other. Each year, an elite group of RDVP Fellows explore innovations in critical areas including: Literacy and numeracy e-learning and training e-government Social networks and community building	Health and safety are the most basic of human needs, yet billions of people are plagued by disease, injustice, and insecurity around the world.
